Sue’s most recent work includes a
series of still
life paintings and some small landscapes, all are oil on canvas, board
or
paper.
The still life work captures the elegance and
sweetness found
in domestic objects and ornaments. The beauty of these paintings is
found in
their striking simplicity. The works introduce objects to each other
creating
interesting and witty relationships that suggest conversation and
create
scenarios that give her subjects character. Sue describes her subjects
with out decoration or sentimentality;
the uncluttered compositions simply draw our attention to the shapes
and forms she
is drawn to.
Sue’s landscapes are fluid with a
lightness and
sensitivity that make the paintings appear effortless and demonstrates
her
confidence with paint and colour. Sue has a sureness of simplicity and
ease of
brush work and mark making that suggests hazy memories of views
absorbed on a
long walk.
Sue’s skill as an artist, her confident
handling of paint,
line and colour combine to make paintings of subtlety and interest;
naïve and
accomplished.
